| Some tips on being safe online | |
| Rogue software (Also known as malware) | Scam Emails |
| What is rogue software? | What is a scam email? |
| Rogue software is any program that makes out it is beneficial to you, but it's only purpose is to extract money from you. | A scam email is one intended to entice you into parting with you hard-earned cash with no return for you. (Scam = rip-off) |
| From time to time rogue software will
invade your computer. This is not your fault - you may have just
visited an infected website. A good way to tell good software from rogue is this : If the software is safe and trusted they will never ask you for money up front, usually they will provide a fully working trial for 15-30 days and then it's up to you whether you want to buy their program. Rogue software will tell you that you have problems and ask for money before it can fix the problems (most report back problems that are not actually present in the first place). |
Never click on links from an email that
purports to be from your bank, your bank will NEVER ask for your log in
details, why should they? They already know them. Be warned, some of
the links are exceptionally good imitations of the genuine sites. If you receive an offer to make a large amount of money from an email, be wary, if it looks too good to be true, it probably is. |
